A Special "Welcome" to Giuseppe De Fidio
From Soccer Performance International
CYA Members,
Over the past 8 years, CYA Volunteer and SPI staff have worked tirelessly to develop and implement a player development program with a focus on education. We bagan in 1999 by hosting a program for all our recreational players - the "life-blood" of any club.
In 2000, working with the CYA Bantam Program, we developed HUGS (Help Us Grow in Soccer). This program was especially designed for our youngest players ages 3 - 7. These sessions were intended to supplement the education of those players already enrolled in the CYA Program. Over 2,500 kids have registered and experienced the HUGS program since it was rolled out in the spring of 2000!
In the year’s that followed, CYA continued to grow and we enhanced all of our programs to include coaches training and goal-keeping sessions. We worked closely with VYSA to provide education and certification to over 300 coaches, dramatically enhancing the education experience enjoyed by all our members.
In 2006, we finally brought together the recreational and travel programs into what we call the CYA Legacy Program. The seamless transition from "house" to "travel" was complete. The program currently has 11 travel teams in the U9 - U10 age group with another 6 set to be introduced in mid 2008.
All the above milestones have now brought us to the next level in our educational process. As a club, we strive to find common ground with organizations (local and international) that have their foundation based on player and coach education. We at CYA consider Giuseppe "Beppe" De Fidio and Scuola Numero Uno Dei Portieri (SNU) part of this educational alliance.
Beppe and his group will be visiting CYA October 31st through November 4th, 2007. SNU utilizes experts in the field of goal-keeper development with many acting as technical advisors to professional clubs in Italy.
On behalf of CYA and SPI, we welcome Beppe to Chantilly and hope all of you can enjoy the insight he has to offer.
Please feel free to contact me directly with any questions you may have regarding any of our programs. I can be reached at 703-327-8326 or via email at avera@spisoccer.com
Sincerely,
Andy Vera

CYA Goalkeeping Training by SS LAZIO!
Training Schedule Change! 10/26/2007 Read Below!
We are extremely pleased to announce an opportunity for all of our CYA Goalkeepers (U10 - U19) to train with the renowned Scuola Numero Uno (SNU) from Italy! Giuseppe De Fidio is the goalkeeping coach for Lazio and in addition, he runs the SNU Academy for goalkeepers. Mr. De Fidio is coming to Washington and will personally train CYA Goalkeepers!
The program is now set to take place between October 31st and November 3rd. The training schedule is below. There is no cost for CYA Goalkeepers to participate in this program! YOU MUST REGISTER for this program by sending an email to Andy Vera (CYA Coaching Director) at avera@spisoccer.com
Due to the overwhelming response we anticipate, we can only allow a maximum of 2 goalkeepers per team. Mr. De Fidio will have another trainer with him yet we must keep the sessions down to a manageable number.
A Special thanks to Andy Vera (Soccer Performance International) for putting this program together! Andy is the Director of Player Development for CYA and without his help, this unique and unprecedented opportunity would not exist. Thanks for all of your effort on behalf of CYA Soccer Andy!

High School Soccer Update
Winter 2007/2008
We often receive questions regarding the local high school soccer programs so in an effort to keep you all up to speed on things, we have offered some information that will be helpful over the coming weeks:
1) Become familiar with your school’s website. The primary schools that CYA feeds into are Chantilly High School, Westfield High School and Oakton High School.
2) Your child MUST have a completed Emergency Care Card and an updated Physical to compete in any High School Sport. Make sure these items are done BEFORE they get to their tryout!
3) Tryouts start in February! With the possibility of standing ice and snow, fields may be closed which means your teams will participate indoor. Find out the Gym schedule and when Soccer is slated to practice.
4) Parents - please be understanding during tryout week. This is a tough time and will be even tougher if your child doesn’t make the team. Remember that only a limited number of kids make the High School team but they will always have a slot to play in the CYA Program!
If you have any questions or comments about High School Soccer, send them to us and we will steer you in the right direction.
Good Luck to all CYA players who aspire to play for their High Schools this Spring!
CYA HUGS is BACK for the Fall 2007 Season!
Help Us Grow in Soccer (HUGS)
CYA and Soccer Performance International (SPI) teamed up a few years ago and developed a program for 3 - 6 year olds called HUGS. The focus of this program is to introduce the youngest kids to soccer in an environment that is non threatening and fun! SPI has done a terrific job implementing games that develop motor skills and encourage social interaction. Over the years we have received numerous positive comments and the number of participants just keeps on growing!
So, for this Fall 2007 season, we wanted to get the information out early and encourage you all to register soon. You can obtain additional information and register on the SPI website (www.spisoccer.com).
